Profits Before People: 7 of the World’s Most Irresponsible Companies
Money isn’t everything – or is it?
To most corporations, making a profit is goal number one – but some of those companies take it way too far, sacrificing the health of the planet and its inhabitants for a bigger bank balance.
Far too many corporations turn a blind eye to the consequences of their destructive, exploitative practices.
The worst of them are committing atrocities that go beyond the realm of objectionable into criminal, dumping toxic chemicals without regard to public health and employing child labor.

Good governance includes social responsibility. But NOT limited to the CSR projects done for their Annual Report purposes or PR.
Many companies do a lot of good and market it to show how good they are. That's an Eye wash and I am against that. good is done and then advertised to the world.
Do good bUt let it be on principle and not for the sake of PR.
Companies should treat their own employees well, pay them according to their work performed, comply with the UN ILO regulations and local labour statutes.
Social obligations and employee benefits should be for all employees irrespective of the category.
Safety and working environment should be conducive to the health of the employees.
Outsourcing of indirect work and services should be closely reviewed to ensure all workers are treated equally.
Gender balance and equality of work should be regularised.
Waste management and environmental standards to be respected and complied with......
The list goes on and on.....
What has SRI Lanka done in this regard?
Your guess is good as mine.
All companies should be inspected for compliance with statutory regulations in full starting with the Government.
The government should set the example and treat their employees well and not outsource certain work for avoidance of social benefits, EPF, ETF, Bonuses, Pension, Gratuvity and leave.

Also, stop sale of dangerous tobacco, try that one also.
Stop all employers from demanding that the workers to work 10-12 hours a day!
Have a CMC or MC collect the garbage regularly and systematically!
This is just a GIGANTIC task and even US and UK are battling it out.
The Maldives is full of dirt.
Just go around the city roads in the Maldives and it is plain that all the dirt is dumped in the sea and some unhabitated Islands.
The governments build roads and do not build drains and sewage systems to go with it. people build houses and send their waste water to the roads.

Once I raised an issue in another forum related to Safety culture in Sri Lanka and someone calling himself a HSE expert was trying to ridicule my concerns by asking what my credentials were to raise those issue.
That is the sad state of affairs in the country.
