Shell's U.S. boss to step down

The head of Royal Dutch Shell's U.S. operations will leave by mutual agreement at the end of March after 34 years, the Anglo-Dutch company said on Wednesday.
Marvin Odum, who is also Shell's U.S. unconventional resources director, plans to pursue other opportunities, a company spokesman said.
Bruce Culpepper, executive vice president HR for unconventional resources and regional coordination, will replace Odum as chairman of U.S. operations.
Following Odum's departure, Shell will abolish the unconventional resources directorate, and the shale business will join the international upstream organization under Andy Brown, the company said in a statement.
"Marvin has had a long and distinguished Shell career, and I'm grateful to him for the central role he’s played in the company's success," Chief Executive Officer Ben van Beurden said.

Another Oil Crash Is Coming, and There May Be No Recovery

It’s time for oil investors to start taking electric cars seriously.
In the next two years, Tesla and Chevy plan to start selling electric cars with a range of more than 200 miles priced in the $30,000 range. Ford is investing billions, Volkswagen is investing billions, and Nissan and BMW are investing billions. Nearly every major carmaker—as well as Apple and Google—is working on the next generation of plug-in cars.
This is a problem for oil markets. OPEC still contends that electric vehicles will make up just 1 percent of global car sales in 2040. Exxon's forecast is similarly dismissive.
The oil price crash that started in 2014 was caused by a glut of unwanted oil, as producers started cranking out about 2 million barrels a day more than the market supported. Nobody saw it coming, despite the massively expanding oil fields across North America. The question is: How soon could electric vehicles trigger a similar oil glut by reducing demand by the same 2 million barrels?

Oil slips as oversupply, slowing growth outweigh strong gasoline demand

Crude prices dipped on Thursday as strong U.S. gasoline demand failed to counter downward pressure from global overproduction that has left storage facilities swelling with unsold oil.
A slowing global economy, which Citi said would grow by just 2.5 percent this year compared to a previous forecast of 2.7 percent, also weighed on Brent, traders said.
"Global growth prospects are worsening further, with deterioration across advanced economies alongside previous weakness in emerging markets," Citi economists wrote in a research note.
The international Brent crude benchmark was trading at $34.17 per barrel at 0242 GMT, down 24 cents from its last close, hit by global oversupply that sees 1 million to 2 million barrels of crude produced every day above demand.
U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were down slightly less, losing 16 cents to $31.99 per barrel, receiving some support from strong gasoline demand.

Oil rallies to three-month high; analysts warn of glut

Brent crude hit a three-month high on Monday, extending gains that have lifted crude benchmarks by more than a third from this year's lows on an improving global outlook and stronger sentiment for a market recovery.
Front-month Brent crude futures LCOc1 traded as high as $39.50, the highest since early December, and were trading at $39.30 a barrel at 1230 GMT, up 58 cents from their last settlement. In January, prices fell to levels not seen since 2003.
U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures fetched $36.53 a barrel, up 61 cents from the last close. The day's high of $36.72 was more than 40 percent above February lows.
The May WTI contract settled on Friday at $35.92 a barrel, up 3.91 percent.

Iran Oil Lands in Europe

The Monte Toledo oil tanker covered the uneventful voyage from Iran to Europe with a haul of 1 million barrels of crude in just 17 days, but its journey has been four years in the making.
On Sunday, the tanker became the first to deliver Iranian crude into Europe since mid-2012, when Brussels imposed an oil embargo in an attempt to force the Middle Eastern nation to negotiate the end of its nuclear program. The ban was lifted in January as part of a broader deal that ended a decade of sanctions.
The 275-meter tanker started offloading its cargo into a refinery owned by Cia. Espanola de Petroleos, near Algeciras, a few miles from Gibraltar. By midday, the vessel had already pumped to shore about a fifth of its cargo.
