The Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) had risen 5.4 percent in July.
The CCPI index in August 2018 remained unchanged at 125.8 compared with the month before, the department said in a statement.
The year-on-year inflation of the Food Group increased from 5.6% in July 2018 to 7.5% in August 2018 and that of the Non‐food Group fell from 5.3% in July to 5.1% in August during this period.
Contribution to inflation by food commodities in August 2018, on a year-on-year basis was 2.27 percent while the contribution of Non Food items was 3.55 percent.
