James Packer's Crown Group says it will not go ahead with a proposed plan to develop a $400 million luxury hotel and resort in Sri Lanka, following a decision by the government in Colombo to scrap tax concessions for the project.
A spokeswoman from Crown said the company respected the decision and on that basis the project would not be going ahead.

This is very good. These types of projects will disturb the sri lankan culture for sure. Our children now can see sri lanka as it is in future as well.

Then why the common man and our religious leaders dont go against betting centers?
Betting centers do far greater damage to the society than casions.

There many view points on this issue.
Basically it is not a good business move to grant permission for operations of this nature and after financial dealing have been transacted and properties acquired or agreed to be acquired to inform the investor that it is not possible or that the Govt. Has changed it mind in it.
Since this was a country free from too many immoral contaminants (not altogether though) there should not have been any compromise on this side. It was not that they were unaware of the general opinion.
If there is no serious damage or loss to Packer then we may get away safe. But woe be unto the people concerned if it is otherwise. Investor Relations with International Investors will be a major setback.
