The two main share holders of Kahawatta Plantation PLC are Forbes Plantations (Pvt) Ltd and Ceylon Tea Services PLC. Respectively they own 63.78% and 15.74% of the total shares..

Kahawatta Tea plantations are mainly in the mid country (Nawalapitiya and Sabaragamuwa Districts) 

As mentioned in the Annual Report 2015 Kahawatte is the trail blazer in Cinnamon Plantation. Value added cinnamon is being undertaken and a properly designed cinnamon pack will soo be introduced through the shelves of Dilmah outlets. Dilmah is the brand name of the second largest share holder..

Plantation include tea, rubber, cinnamon, pepper and fuel wood.

One characteristic of this company is they have declared only one dividend and thats 50 cents in 2012.
This is a December company and what I take as year 2015 to compare with other companies is actually the year ended 2014..

This poor dividend paying is seen in this company throughout history..

Total Revenue of the company is above Rs 3 billion for last year..

Revenue of Kahawatta is better than Namunukula and Kegalle but not as  TPL

One reason why TPL stand high in 2015 is it includes 15 months where KAHAWATTA includes only 12 months like the rest of the companies..So revenue wise Kahawatta stand similar to TIPL

One form of gathering research data is observation. But observation is a very subjective mechanism. I ve observed that many plantation companies are very poor in maintaining estates.. Coconut Stripes near the river of Kelani Valley Plantation as well as Kahawatta tea estates are among such..

Following are exact words of the Kahawatta annual report..

" Kahawatta Plantations inherited a legacy of neglect where there was no replanting or expenditure on factory development or modernization. This situation however has been aggressively arrested and the plantations are primed to produce better crops and realize improved prices with the work undertaken by our company."

Even though TPL and Kahawatta were neck to neck in revenue for many years the profitability was not that close due to above lethargic practices..

KAHA is trading at more than 2x net assets. Any reason for this? The earnings don't seem to support it IMHO. Do they have any 'hidden' assets or future prospects that I'm not seeing?

WATA is the next highest when it comes to P/BV.

Plantation companies that I have evaluated so far has recorded lower Revenue than previous year, and without a doubt all other companies will follow the same .

Net Assets of the company is 11.78 and the share is trading at Rs 36.20 as at 1st July 2016 continuing the same pattern as identified by FG earlier in this thread.
