Re: Gota's Era
I have some faith in GR and MR as individuals.
But most of these people appointed ... ????
I raised this question before how MR/GR can rid some of these people.
Well they apparently can't.
OLD WINE IN A NEW BOTTLE.
Ruwan , for memories sake , can you post this pic in the
OLD WINE IN NEW BOTTLE THREAD too

Re: Gota's Era
That pic reminds me of a story jointly written by me and 'Chinwi', in this forum, I think, about 5 years ago.
The summary was;
You should appoint 'old robbers' as your leaders; because since they have robbed enough, they will rob less, the country will loose less. If you appoint 'now robbers', they need to rob from the start, the country will loose more.

ADMIN,Thank you for the reminder. Since my replies been Reported and Red flagged I will stop posting here,,,,,,,
Well, CSE and whole country depend on Politicians... we all know if the justice system above the parliament all the people in the picture would have been jailed by now.... for last 71 years and God knows how long this country will go down if people don't change....
Sorry to say this-your grand children time also this country will be a developing country ..in fact until the worlds end it would be same unless people start act like real human beings rather than become slave to some one else..... I hope GR will be a changed man he will make a change, otherwise we need to wait till the spiritual leader returns.
Mud slinging mean fake/wrong info......... This picture is crystal clear
Never the less I apologies for the above pictures I posted.

Re: Gota's Era
1) Yes politics and what politicians do affect the country and CSE. So there should be some allowance to talk about Politics when it tied to a relevant topic.
2) At the same time , all members should refrain from any direct mudslinging posts which does not have factual base.
Ex: The recent Ministers appointed Factually happened. Posting about such is not mudslinging but a fact. One can be negative on it. Many people , even those who are Pro Gota government did not want some OLD WINE with a shady history to be reappointed. So Gota has failed in such. Ministers who can add value to the country need to be appointed and when it doesn't happen it adds negative sentiment to the people who expected more. Such can affect countries performance ( if they Lie or swindle ) and then CSE.
Ex :
a) Nobody trusted Arjuna Mahendran but many trust Coomaraswamy.
b) It same as trusting a companies management team when assessing that
companies share valuation.
3) Generally, talking about a specific Parties politics almost always upset someone
( same with religious talk) .
If some is partial to a party, they can post more positives ( like smart share promotions) and those who oppose it can talk negatives. There are extremely few people who talk balance.
4) I think this thread should both talk about
a) positive things
b) negative things
Gota government does . Specially how it can affect Country and CSE . But all members should leave out any posts without facts.
I recall I too was critical about YP failures and specially how they did nothing to add positivism to CSE. But I also commended them for some good things they did.
5) From an administration point of view , let try to stick to both positives and negatives under a topic but based on facts only.

Re: Gota's Era
Let talk about it a bit.
1) YP ofcourse got so much better era than during MR's 2005-2009 period.
No question.
2) But we should refer to what we discussed and showed stats below.
MR second regime ending 2013-2015 started showing GDP downs + effects of excessive Loans and white elephants etc.
https://forum.lankaninvestor.com/t3684p75-the-country-that-mahinda-left#101972
3) So to summarize,
* MR did a wonderful job during 2005-2010.
* But 2010-2015 had issues. Stats on GDP ( as example) as above shows a
negative sample of this effect.
* YP got a decent environments to build upon, but it was Not the Best Era
I would say. ( they had to deal with loan interest issues + try to correct other economic issues MR left).
* Ofcourse YP policies affected many public negatively and there corrective
measures did not make any positive impact on day to day public lives.
But as Backstage said , YP /CB corrective issues started showing some positive
sign since 2018 ( Sept) on larger scale ( not felt by public) but unfortunate events overshadowed the positives.
* Gota has to
a) fix some the bad YP did
b) but continue the good YP did
SL economic stage is already set /improving from the lows at present time
( when Gota took over) and only need to be managed properly to capitalize
and make changes public will feel.
Backstage wrote:yellow knife wrote:Backstage writes
Gota’ has arrived at the right place at the right time,
YPs got very much a better chance than MR.. I often use charts. MR had the worst era.. He had to face Great Depression of 2008 along with the last Elam war. He had to face longest oil rally.
What has YPs got?.. The best era to run a country but they failed to pick the fruits..
MR took power in 2004 and left office in December 2014.. Just check the oil price during that decade..
YK my post was not YP vs Rajapakse, I will leave that stuff to school boys who haven't quite grown up. I could write a scathing critique of YP period beginning with the 100 day program, but I was giving in brief my view of current situ as topic suggested.
2015 was a missed opportunity, definitely. But I think 2010 was the biggest miss. Lets see what happens to this one.

Re: Gota's Era
Back to topic. My commentary earlier was a brief take on the current scenario and a overview of the events leading to it and not a defense of YP. That macro correction was a correction of a problem largely created by YP themselves or a problem partly inherited which they made worst. We shouldn't let the trees obscure the view of the forest.
No party in SL has a radical/visionary economic plan. All have plans with contradictory policy without a even a proper policy framework to function within a flawed system.
I admit I had a bit of hope, when Stiglitz and Hausman turned up in 2016. What happened after they left was a cruel joke on all of us.
Read Bellwether about monetary policy contradictions, read WA Wijeyawardena about the dysfunctions within the system,read the IPS State of
The Economy report about policy and adaptability failure . (I didn't read this years one, its available in their site. big doc to download though.) Coomaraswamy is a good and honest manager of a flawed system.
In the meantime lets see what the Pillawoos Chefs will produce from the Hilton kitchen (not implying class-ism:) ) There will be food yes, but don't expect Michelin stars.
Maybe we shouldn't get too wrapped up about interpreting the past and focus on today and tomorrow.

Re: Gota's Era
Talking politics with figures,facts and decent manner with political knowledge is somewhat acceptable than going crazy without any facts and most importantly zero political knowledge.I had patience to stay away from it because forum is about stocks though I had a firm view about the election.The winner was crystal clear but few here were expecting the opposite and going crazy which obviously me and other gota supporters watched calmly ,but there is a limit.slstock wrote:Okay, I saw 4 accounts giving Red reps to Ruwan's last comment.

Admin you have all the rights to remove even the entire thread if you wish. That will never make me upset.
The purpose is very clear for the thread.
I wanted to add a continuous thread which will show how Gota's era move with CSE. At the moment it has generated local interest with high volumes. Yet it has failed to create confidence among foreign investors.
This thread will cover how the decisions taken by the Government affect CSE. Continuing a thread like will this be useful for
1. Investors
2. Politicians
3. General Public.
Politics is something everyone is interested and where everyone can write something. It will be come too hot at times.
I have never ever given a red remarks for any member and I still believe its better to remove - responds for posters.

Re: Gota's Era
Let me see I can add further sense/balance
1) YK,
I hope you continue to post both positive and negative issues during Gota era that affects the country and CSE . Knowing you , I presume you have no problem of others posting opposing views ( ofcourse in a decent manner )
2) Gota , Sajith and CSE
Market uptrend was due for a long time. Gota or no Gota.
If Sajith got elected , in short term I think there would have been some dip in ASI temporarily. WHY?
a) YP or UNP did nothing concrete to boost CSE during their era . So there would not be any immediate confidence change in public if Sajith came. Bit of time was needed to see what Sajith does to boost CSE. We saw there was hardly any market players in YP camp.
b) Gota clan has some big CSE market players as we well know. Ethical or not. They push up and do things to push down too as politically needed.
Below announcement/reply on CITW was expected and not a surprise.
https://cdn.cse.lk/cmt/announcement_portal_prod/Reply%20to%20SEC%20Letter%20-%20Unusual%20Trading%20Activity_247121862254922.pdf
c) But even with Sajith, CSE would have started to go
up with time. WHY ? Several reasons. But 1 simple fact. When bank interests are so low, where else will people put their money for better returns? ( property has it own issues )
As Gota was elected, there was/will be certainly a boost in confidence to expedite CSE ups.
But this does not mean that Gota is making CSE up fundamentally. Fundamentally, on valuations and due to somewhat slowly recovering economy , the stage was already set for CSE to go up in medium term whoever comes to power. I did a post / vote on
before signalling this uptrend to come.
ps : I see no issue in Ruwan posting the recent Gota Cabinet appointments. It certainly does affect things for country as we all should be concerned. Why ?
Explained before clearly.
But I can see how certain comments have gone beyond the topic which will aggravate some Gota fans. But these RED reps without explanations are not done.
But Ruwan you expected it didn't you when you posted ? Atleast for one Dhanu explained his position now.
~~~~~~~~~~
Bottom line :
Let discuss both positive and negative things during Gota Era that affects country and CSE. But lets not be biased on either end which ever political party one supports.
Re: Gota's Era
Therefore removing the thread is not the solution but we have to cultivate tolerance individually.
Red Flag (read Threats & Iintimidation) is a way of life of one political party members but it is not a decent behaviour in this century.
