Embrace Modernity or Perish is the Question Today

Most parts of the island are experiencing some form of travel restrictions and curfews due to spreading of the deadly virus.

Despite these travel restrictions and curfews in force, there had been reports of mass gatherings at some religious places recently.

I am sure that all those gatherings were Bona Fide and with one thing in mind and that was to invoke blessing to the entire globe and seek divine protection of the cosmic powerhouse.

Usually, as masses run out of other options, seeking protection from the cosmic powerhouse is not something new to the world.

However, mass gathering, breaking curfew conditions and exposing oneself to the virus and or exporting it without even knowing is not an acceptable way of behaviour.

The Bell towers, Minarets and other forms of communicating methodologies have been invented and introduced many centuries’ ago.

Those methods have worked well during those times but are they useful even in this electronic and digital age too is an important question.

Instead of calling people to gather in one place for prayer to invoke blessing in a situation like this can be easily avoided if they use the widely and almost freely available tools today.

Some have already restored to those digital methods but many are still using the Stone Age communication tools in this digital age too.

Let those all archaic communications tool be there for the posterity only because they have very significant historical and sentimental values.

Sooner we get used to the new forms of digital communication tools is better, not only during these trouble times but even in other normal times.

Same is true with our financial actions.

Those venders who make house calls do not accept cards and insist payment only in cash.

So people are forced to keep cash at homes, exposing themselves to a possible robbery in one way.

The saddest thing about this cash-only saga is that we could possibly be touching contaminated currency notes even.

So what is the ultimate point of social distancing and avoiding crowd gatherings in the first place?

One would avoid attending religious gatherings and festivals fearing infection but all the precautions taken will be down the drain in a second when the vender comes home in his Demo Batta selling vegetables.

Embrace modernity or perish, is the question today.
