SriLankan expects US$25mn topline from airline alliance
SriLankan is joining the alliance from May 01, after upgrading its passenger support system and some processes to comply with oneworld requirements.
SriLankan chief executive Kapila Chandrasena said oneworld which was made up of airlines in East Asia, Middle East, Europe and North and South America had a gap in South Asia.
SriLankan had an extensive network in the region including to India, he said.
Chandrasena said SriLankan expected incremental revenues of 25 million US dollars a year from joining the alliance.
SriLankan would also be able to offer 'seamless' travel to South and North America, he said.
SriLankan's frequent flyer program will be integrated with oneworld allowing miles to be used in any member airline while airport lounges of member airlines would also be available to SriLankan customers.
Key members of the airlines include Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines and Qantas in Asia; airberlin, British Airways, Finnair, Iberia and Russia’s S7 Airlines in Europe and Qatar Airways and Royal Jordanian, from the Middle East.
American Airlines and, its merger partner US Airways, from North America: LAN TAM from South America as well as more than 30 affiliated airlines.
Chandrasena said SriLankan's service levels were high but the formal acceptance into the alliance would give automatic recognition of it to global travellers.
