Tension between Derana, MTV

A tense situation arose this evening between the staff of Derana TV and MTV/Sirasa when an MTV crew had gone to the Derana office.
MTV/Sirasa reported that the crew had visited the office to obtain a comment on a land at Fort which the Maharajah Group, the owners of MTV/Sirasa, said belongs to them.
Derana TV had last night quoted the Urban Development Authority (UDA) as saying that the land did not belong to the Maharajah Group but MTV/Sirasa said the UDA had however told them the opposite and so sought a comment from Derana TV on its news report.
However Derana TV claimed that the MTV/Sirasa crew had forced their way into the Derana TV office and attempted to take footage inside the premises without obtaining approval from the management of Derana TV.
MTV/Sirasa later reported that their media crew were being held by the Derana TV staff and that their equipment had also been taken away by force.
Derana TV however insisted that the MTV crew were not being held captive and that they were handed over to the police. (Colombo Gazette)

I stopped watching Sirasa I think it has the worst ethics in the media field. SL media has become dodgy like in some countries.

I think derana must support MTV on this matter (land issue with UDA)

Me too. See how badly they attacked Ranil Wickramasinghe. We have to watch one sided sickening drama of their private quarrel.
BTW, The land it dispute is an open area in front of Dutch Hospital - Sangakkara's Crab Ministry -.
If they build a structure at this stage , entire landscape will become ugly.
As per Maharajh's lawyers, this land was initially owned by Govt. (UDA ) and they handed over it to Maharajahs to build 10 storied building in 1988. They have not build it for last 27 years !
As they abandoned the project, the town planners of UDA later allocated this area as an open space between WTC and Dutch Hospital in their development plans.
Now with new Yahapalana power Maharajahs become real Maharajahs and started showing their power. සිරසෙ ලොක්ක ඊයෙ කිව්ව "අපි වෙලාව එනකම් බලාගෙන හිටියෙ මේ ඉඩම නැවත ගන්න. " දැන් ඇවිත් තිබෙන්නේ ඒ අයගේ වේලාවයි ?
What UDA can do is just cancel the land transfer as Maharajahs have not fulfilled the conditions for past 27 years .
In addition, the UDA has possessed this land for over 25 years and I think as per law they can continue doing so.
Somehow if anyone build any building here the entire area will become hideous.

Thanks chinwi for the update I guess many did not know the story behind this. I guess you summed it up about sirasa too. Should not let maharaja dictate who goes to parliament, chose the national list etc, it will set another trend in dirty politics in SL. I hope MR does not come to a deal with him to hoping to come to power as per some gossip news reports.
