COLOMBO – In Sri Lanka, Politicians rarely interfere with Sports matters and they specially shy away from sports like Cricket where there are Millions of Dollars involved. However, on one such rare occasion, the Sports Minister had made a request from Sri Lankan Star Wicket-keeper Batsman Kumar Sangakkara to render his services for One more year to the Sri Lankan Cricket Team.
Sangakkara, who seemed to initially ignore this request broke the silence yesterday in a local supermarket when he accidentally bumped into the minister in the dairy section. According to bystanders and onlookers, the record holding Batsman is believed to have told the minister that he was not used to polite requests by Sri Lankan politicians like this and that he would have given more serious thought about staying one more year if there were a few threats made to him personally or his family.
“I just couldn’t believe the way that the minister asked me to stay on for another year. I didn’t feel the least bit intimidated and I didn’t feel like my life or a future in Cricket Administration depended on what I decide to do with my personal Cricket Career. I have never been subjected to such respectable treatment by a Sri Lankan Politician before and I honestly don’t know how to react to this”.
