මැණික වටිනාකමින් සිටින්නේ ඉදිරියෙන්මය. මේ මහඟු වටිනාකමකින් යුතු මැණික් සමග පොළොවේ සැඟව සිට ගොඩට එන "සමරස් කයිට්" නම් ගල් විශේෂයක් වේ. අධි විකිරණශීලී ගුණයකින් යුත් මේ ගල් විශේෂය සබරගමුවේ සමහර නිවෙස්වල අලංකාරයටත්, දොර සුළඟින් වැසීම වැළකීමටත් භාවිත කරයි. එහෙත් මෙහි ඇති විකිරණශීලීත්වය නිසා පිළිකා වැනි මාරන්තික රෝග වැළඳීමේ අවධානමක් පවතින බව රත්න විද්‍යා පර්යේශකයකු වන නන්දන එදිරිසිංහ මහතා පවසනවා.

I am trying to find the English words of this dangerous stone to find more info
1) "සමරස් කයිට්" how is it spelt in english ?
2) Why is the person in the article picture holding it in his hand ?

After much searching , finally found the stone it is called
Samarskite.

සමරස් කයිට් is NOT Samarskite
I wish these article writers pronounce the words correctly ( or give English name also so we can search) .
hope this info intiated by Nihal is useful ( to maybe save lives)

Yes, if it is so radioactive, it should not be held in hand.
We use "Geiger Muller counter" when dealing with incidents involving radioactive substances and take utmost precautions too.

thank you nihal. The issue was finding he english word from sinhala spelling to google in the first place. Now we have found we have more resources.

But if you look at the map in one of the given sites, SL is missing and nearest are Saudi and Thai.
This is not found in India either.
I am not geography expert and possibly we have drifted from another part millions of years ago.
