TANG.N0000 (Tangerine Beach Hotels PLC)

Family businesses are my favourties in picking stocks. However not every family is generous with dividends . Specially when all family members are executive directors the requirement for paying dividends (even when company is performing well) does not arrive.
Tangerine Hotel is a four star hotel situated in Kalutara (Wadduwa) next to Royal Palms Beach Hotels which belongs to the same group of five star category. The area is competing with star class hotels like Blue Waters, Citrus Waskaduwa, Mermaids Hotel, Serene Pavillion, Hibiscus beach hotel etc.

Drop of Revenue and profit for year 2015 a midst highest number of tourist arrival attribute to
* Russian rouble crisis where the hotel is more focused on Russian tourists
* Southern express way that makes destinations in Galle and Matara becoming closer to tourists than earlier as less time spent on traveling
* One off incident of Presidential Election held in December the peak month of tourist arrivals
* Room occupancy ratio fell from 74% to 60% reducing the earrings

As above chart shows the dividend has no link with the EPS..

Company made a rights issue in 2008.. Net Assets Value was continuously growing

Company has decided to revisit its dependency on Russian market and to diversify the Product to include many tourists from different destinations.
Many discounts offered for locals during off-season like many other hotels..
The hotels in Waskaduwa often recognize and reward the repeated customers. Tangerine annual report state that they have identified 275 repeaters mainly from UK,Germany, Holland, Russia, and Ukraine.

Informal guest houses around the beach belt has become a threat to star grade hotels. However these are not regulated and offer lower cost meals and accommodation.

Today I received an e-add on Hibiscus Hotel with a superb discounted rate valid until 31st Oct 2015. That indicated the area where Tangerine is located is affected by less tourists. Hibiscus being a three star hotel enjoyed higher room occupancy and now they are also compelled to go for advertising. Hibiscus often had no rooms to book on Agoda.com
Thus we can not expect much development for Tang.N even for the next quarter

TANG has agreed to settle claims of accidents occurred in 1996 at the aggregated value of Rs 61 Million through SLIC.
