    With the VW scandal loosing up the ethical practices of the so called élite countries, the pressure in on the company is to find new markets for their car brands from Audi to VW etc.

    They will not spare even poorer countries with the likes of Sri Lanka whose car dealers will no doubt jump at the first offer of marketing the VW cars in Sri Lanka. They see that there is a set of society Sri Lanka that are willing to pay over 400% duty tariffs to own a Japaneese Car. So an europeon car is well within their taste since now Japaneese vehicles are owned even by the most menial criminal. There is very little pleasure in owning one at present.

    I begin to distrust the very idea of some discussions that were held with VW and the SL officials over setting up a VW production line!! Was it a assembly line for new cars or dealership to sell VW cars new and old at cheap prices knowing very well that there were internal inquiries going by the US environmental authorities?

    What ever, I feel that the ethics practiced in business needs a good shaking and such scandals should open the eyes of our local law makers and restrict the tendencies to practices deception at corporate level on a mass scale. The top executives and board of directors have committed a criminal offense and just not a case of lack of proper management or good governance!

    Apparently VW has made some mistakes in their strategy for the next few years. That also adds to their misery and downfall as a car manufacturer.

    They have in their plans ALL electric cars to be researched and developed and all their R&D spend was in that strategy.

    Now they cannot spend more dough on Hybrids which should have been a better option. Hybrids do serve a purpose at the moment and they will miss their emissions target set for them.
