Lol, I have been paying parking fees in Colombo for years now. It's Rs. 30 per hour. That is also collected by the same company then and now
Now the plan is underway to fix automated machines within 6 months.

Re: parking fee
but government should increase public transport facilities in colombo. by introducing metro train (they can start mini trains from dematagoda to mount lavinia in every 15 minutes also dematagoda-nugegoda then all office workers and others will use these facilities) and etc.(should create a well protected parking area for luxury vehicles and etc.)
also all government departments should be centralized in a particular area which is well connected with public transportation hub.
containers carriers and long vehicles should not enter to the colombo. Ragama can use as Cargo hub. trains can transport containers from port to the Ragama.

During last rainy season, some areas in Colombo were flooded. A Baiyo gang were sharing posts in social media started shouting "When Gota was there no roads in Colombo flooded blah, blah" Lol, They missed a point, that means Gota built a flood free mechanism in Colombo that can lasts only for an year.
Real scenario is a different one, the regime created a myth for 2015 election that they made Colombo flood free, but the truth is some roads were being flooded for over and over again over years even for a small rainfall. some examples I see very often is the Siri Dhamma mawatha-Nalanda College road and some areas and roads in Nawala. Many of you might have similar experience.Having said that they have done a reasonable job to control flood in Colombo via few projects funded by Japan and World bank.

Re: parking fee
This need massive number of workers. Earlier CMC deployed their own workers, but they did not collect fees in efficient manner, as they get their salary anyway at end of the month. So the revenue CMC got was minimum with a massive burden on paying these inefficient workers. Under new mechanism, some significant amount goes for the traffic warden's salary and more importantly a performance based commission, so that they tend to collect money efficiently, and you might have experience that if a vehicle starts moving they run in to it and collect money. So incentives do work and ultimately higher amount goes to CMC account as well without any burden or deploying large amount of servants, their pensions etc. I learned this story from a parking warden where somedays I park my vehicle in the same place for last 3-4 years. There is another racket going on, especially evening hours, after they collected significant money for companies, some amount they used to keep for them selves, not going to CMC or their company. Again I have no compliant for this as big shots are robbing billions and we keep silent making them our heroes and gods, why we shout for their peanut ?poor boy wrote:here the issue is not charging a fee if the money goes to cmc. why 60% to the collector?
