I guess you are very good at timing the cycle; Don't you UKB?
If so, how do you do that?

Even good financial reports doesn't helpif the trend is negative.
Common sense helps us alot to identify the trend I believe. We should do it case by case.
Few years ago we had an over heated market.
Then some previous government decisions and poor results of companies dragged the market down to 4700.
Now we are getting good financial reports but internal external issues causing this down trend. Market also needed a correction (overall)
Not giving the Casino licenses also a killier. Its an idiotic decision by both government and religious leaders. Common man never go to Casinos & its a very very simple fact.

2)
I saw , Malaka Silva pleading to go to Night clubs again.
So yes, I don't think the common man, you and me will go to those or Casinos often or ever.
If this is regulated properly I see no big issue either.
Those who are concerned about the harm it does ( prostitution , alcoholism, culture, youth getting corrupt eyc ) ... it already happening big time but illegally. Are we stopping them?
If someone can legalize, monitor and do something properly, stopping a good revenue source to the country ( $) is not smart move.
I am not supporting to have Casino culture.
But am supporting to allow foreigner to gamble and waste all their money if they wish, to make Sri Lanka richer ( as long as it is controlled and monitored effectively and general public/"culture" is harmed lesser)
If someone wants I am for to bring some Indian over ETCA to do the "dirty" work at Casinos.
Is it ethical? No.
Will I do it ? No.
But if someone wants to to anyway .. oh well.
Maybe some people will not like to invest in CTC right?
But its traded at CSE , bringing big money to Government ( so they will not stop it) , some will invest whether I/we stay or not... so it there.
Same idea with foriegners wanting to gamble.
Now if locals are allowed to gamble, this is spread island wide, innocent village girls are forcibly dragged to this, or no strict regulations are made about employment or no policy is implemented to stop illegal dirty business that will inevatibly offshot... we can take to streets .
Else a legal and willing income source to country is stopped to make way for illegal activies to flourish anyway.
We can't be in Gal Ugaya always.
We object for everything ( specially if in opposition party or group) and bring nothing as a solution to the table.
This is like the CSE.
I think Sri lankan thinking would have been better in 1930s when they wanted independence from British to work as united group to achieve the cause.
We have gone backwards I think.

I see no point in banning casinos when it has good potential of bringing $$$$. It's fine if it's only opened for foreigners.
These are the tricks played by he politicians to win the elections by deceiving people. They talked too much on Casinos and ethanol and shown only the bad side of it. We will not be a developed country until people are educated and do their own research without listening to politicians.

People make their opinions basing on their individual value systems.
What is ethical and what is right are always debatable.
But as law makers, they have a bigger responsibility.

Re: Do Bull and Bear runs really matter
These politicians and religious leaders forgot that the common man (if they want) goes the betting centers not Casinos. Betting Centers have been up n running for a long time.
We are a nation that always want to boast about our culture/ religions but deep down inside we know that we are utterly corrupted.

Re: Do Bull and Bear runs really matter
1) "Do cyclic Bull and Bear runs really matter to long term investors anywhere ?"
Depends on the capacity of Investor and whether they have invested what they can afford.
For big guys who can absorb short term shocks and maybe even pump more money in such , answer would be NO ( my opinion)
For others, if they cannot see short term cycles through, that mean they are not long term investors.
They are something else. haha.
2)
Are you for or against a regulated Suddha Casino?
If against ....( else no need to answer)
What are your ideas/points for being against an isolated Casino for foreigners only under strict regulations and rules as I mentioned in the previous post ? Maybe with $5000 and above admission fees for the rich and consciously wasteful and a big cut to Government on profits as taxes.
( like CTC and DIST taxes)
If we don't do it, they will go else where like to Macau etc.
Somehow except for big legalized gambling for foreigners now , somehow all other bad things associated with it is already happening in the country. No one is stopping them I see including all those who shout foul. ( some who shout foul can be a fowl themselves too - kukula)
And people still earn "බල්ලෝ මරලා හරි සල්ලි හම්බකිරිම" in Sri Lanka.
The same idea already happens at CSE too right.
This is just legalizing it for a strictly regulated small area ( I said Strictly) and making sure
local are least effected ( as they are already effected in some way or the another by tourism)
I am looking at practical aspect here. ( whether we should allow non legalized issues to blossom anyway or legalized it within small area with regulations and take Suddha money they will spend anyway if we tell them not to even)
As for being a Buddhist country gambling should not be promoted amongst citizens.
( but it still happens anyway ).
Also bad things coming out of it is already happening and they will not be ( or cannot be )
stopped by any government on practical note ( unless we are following Saudi laws for the "selected").
Please note , our personal opinions and the practical situation maybe different.
That's what I was talking about.

Re: Do Bull and Bear runs really matter
No, I am not against Casinos.
As you said and many others correctly said, there is so much vice going on this land but people turn a blind eye to it.
Why do we have to regulate to ban locals going in ?
Are we protecting US and or being demeaning to ourselves ?
