The munitions store at the Salawa army camp, Kosgama, has caught fire. The explosions can be heard at Godagama, and the flames are visible at Hokandara.
People in the area are being evacuated and the A4 Road is closed to traffic.
I saw three fire engines rushing towards the site along the Kotte-Bope Road, at Habarakada and at Aturugiriya.

දැවැන්ත විනාශයක් සිදුවෙමින් පවතී.
අවිස්සාවේල්ල සාලාව යුද හමුදාකඳවුරේ බර අවි පෙදෙසට දැන් ගින්න පැතිරෙමින් තිබෙනවලු.. ප්‍රදේශවාසීන්ට වහාම ඉවත්වන්න කියනව ඒ අවටින්..මොකද පිපිරිම් නිසා ගිනි නිවන්න බැහැ.
නොදන්නා අයට අවිස්සාවේල්ල සාලාව යුද හමුදා ආයුධ ගබඩාව හවස 5.30සිට ගිනි ගන්නවා.. පුපුරණ නිසා නිවන්නට අමාරුයි. පාර වහල. ඉන්න අය කිලෝමීටර් 5ක් වත් දුරට යන්න.

Containing or Controlling ammo fires of this magnitude is extremely difficult (MBRL rounds along with other ammunition and ordinance): Experts suggest the most advised method is to let it burn itself out - Urgently request anyone around the area to evaluate immediately - Asela Waidyalankara

A soldier was reported as dead following the fire broke out in Salawa this evening and two others were admitted to the Homagama and Avissawella hospitals with injuries - Daily Mirror

කොස්ගම සාලාව කෑම්ප් එක අවට තත්ත්වය දැන් බොහෝදුරට පාලනය කරගෙන යමින් පවතිනවා. කරුණාකර මෙන්න මේ උපදෙස් මාලාව හැමෝටම බෙදාහරින්න.
1. දෙයියන්ගෙ නාමෙට මේක "නරඹන්න" යන්න එපා. මේක මල්වෙඩි සංදර්ශනයක් නෙමෙයි.
2. හයිලෙවල් සහ ලෝලෙවල් මාර්ග භාවිතය හැකිතරම් අඩුකරන්න. මන්දයත්, තුවාලකරුවන් කොළඹ, හෝමාගම සහ කළුබෝවිල රෝහල් වෙත රැගෙන යන්න ඉඩ තැබීමට.
3. රෝහල් අවට රැස්කකා බලන්න ලැස්තිවෙන්න එපා. වටවෙලා බලන්න මේක මැජික් සංදර්ශනයක් නෙමෙයි. කරුණාකර අදාළ සේවාවන්ට ක්‍රියාත්මක වෙන්න ඉඩදෙන්න.

Seems like lot of damage done. Many vehicles damaged so not a good time for insurance companies after floods. After June results may be short term buy opportunities will come up.

Salawa camp was once a part of Salawa estate owned by the Obeysekera family, it was one of the best rubber estates in SL. The much overated lion of Boralugoda , Philip Gunawardene established one of the biggest white elephants of the seventies, The plywood factory, which,if operating at full capacity would have converted the entire Singharaja forest into plywood in 12 years. Fortunately early environmentalist fought hard and stopped the Singharala felling. The govt failed to adapt the facility other uses and crony's sold the machinery for a song.
Now it has exploded, I wonder if Phillips grave got hit as it is just close by.
Also close to the plant, on a back road is the most stunningly beautiful ancient dharmasalawa I have seen. Salawa I guess is probably named from that, I do hope it is not damaged.
