Sri Lanka foreign debt repayments spikes to US$3.9bn in 2019
ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka's government foreign debt repayments would rise from 1.828 billion dollars in 2016 to 3.992 billion in 2019, the finance ministry said.
In 2014 debt service was only 1,442 million dollars.
Sri Lanka's foreign debt repayments started to spike over the past five years as sovereign bonds taken from around 205 started to mature.
In addition to central government debt, there was another 2,000 billion rupees worth of debt taken by state enterprises, the finance ministry said.
Annual debt service not counting repayments to the International Monetary Fund by the central bank and rupee bonds held by foreigners are as follows:
Total amount paid in 2014 - US$ 1,442 million
Total amount paid in 2015 - US$ 2,031 million
Total amount paid in 2016 - US$ 1,828 million
Total amount to be paid in 2017 - US$ 2,417 million
Total amount to be paid in 2018 - US$ 2,564 million
Total amount to be paid in 2019 - US$ 3,992 million
Total amount to be paid in 2020 - US$ 3,463 million
