Exports to China from Sri Lanka reached a level of almost 12 million kilograms in 2019 from barely 2 million kilograms a decade ago.

“Cost of producing a kilo of tea in Sri Lanka is amongst the highest in the world. Rising input costs, declining productivity, uneconomic age profile in tea bushes, and high social costs have led to declining profits,” Forbes and Walker’s report stated further.
“For long-term sustainability, the industry needs re-engineering to achieve global competitiveness.

Unlike in low grown sector where smallholders own their land freehold, there is heavy union and government interference in the larger plantations, which stops innovation or productivity gains, economic analysts say.

To me best plantations are MAL MASK MADU LDEV if the plantation run starts soon. MAL showed impressive June results. As LDEV in Hatton too, LDEV's Agarapathana should have done well too - in that case price would not stay at current 4.0 levels. A seller unloading frequently at 4.0 and that made LDEV stagnate.

MADU not impressive results despite higher revenue. Their Madulsima segment did well but Bogawanthalawa made losses. Higher costs than revenue in Boga segment brought down their profits, still profitable than 2019 though.

The tea prices are above 600 per KG in April-May period where all of them should have benefited due to high exposure to Tea.

1) KOTA is played by Anushman Raja ( like he plays with CFLB , CIT/CFI and
many other companies).

KOTA is in a massive financial mess.
Recently they could not even honor their debentures properly.

This share was once Rs 170.
Dropped to Rs 6 due to terrible managment  ( actually most of the companies  of that whole group are mismanaged).

These runs are manipulated.
If Sept results are not good, this will be overvalued on assets and earnings
 at the current price around Rs 12.
Talking about VALUE not price ( which could be manipulated)

2) Many ofthe Plantation shares are running on speculation.

3) BALA, MASK, MADU are also in massive financial messes.
Yesterter day all these were top gainers!!!
What a manipulated market!!

So many newbies have entered CSE and so many Youtube, whatsapp,
FB, and twitter accounts are created to make hey and use these gullible
newbies to pump and dump.

Warning to any reader who is keen to study about companies
without just chasing rallies for profit

1) If someone likes to study,  I have sometime ago ,  made a comprehensice posts on  KOTA itself on  "Slstockviews"  Facebook page giving  detaits to show  how a  once propserous plantatin company  can be mismanaged  to make it come from Rs 170 to Rs 6  !

2) Also made a post on Plantations on  the same FB page yesterday mentioning KVAL specifically.

Today KVAL  ran to Rs 88 and came down due to red market  and selling..
Seems Rs 83 is bit of resistance now. Best to watch tomorrow if  plantation run if over or not to know it short term direction.

~~~~~~
Yes TPL , KVAL AND KGAL has some vlaue.
But TPL has doubled in price already.
KGAL needs to get their act together for Sept
quarter to justify price ( June was not great)
